Katie’s magnetism towards the body began young as an active child, naturally kinesthetically aware and drawn to sports. She decided to study Kinesiology (the art and science of human movement) at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California where she played on the the Women’s Basketball team for four years.

Her first job out of college in 2012 was at Vista del Monte Retirement Community in the fitness center as a personal trainer and fitness instructor for the local retirement community, independent residents, and skilled nursing residents. This allowed her to work alongside physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists. She continues to enjoy working with older adults and includes much of this foundational work in her practice today.

Katie’s natural inclination to massage her friends and teammates led her to the Maui School of Therapeutic Massage in Makawao, HI. She further specialized in Hawaiian Lomi Lomi via Kumu Jeana Iwalani Naluai at Ho’omana Spa Maui. She has worked in several spas and clinics as a Licesned Massage Therapist in 4 states.

She discovered Somatic Breathwork in 2020 led by Steven Jaggers which focuses on the breath as a vehicle for releasing pain stored in the body and receiving clarity in the mind. She became a Somatic Breathwork Practitioner and incorporates the breath in all of her sessions.

At this time, she also connected with Katie Gray and her work, The Empowered Heart® Methodology. She become an Empowered Heart Facilitator through weekly meetings of safe, heart-sharing spaces alongside a group of others dedicated to doing deep inner work. She continues to infuse the EH language and map into her daily life and offerings.

While living in Tucson, AZ, Katie began working closely with Joshua, a nonspeaking autistic poet, artist and advocate. He spells letter by letter on a board to communicate and Katie learned to become his Communication Regulation Partner, supporting with communication, activities of daily living and nervous system regulation. Deeply moved and curious, she started volunteering at Spellers Family Camps. She is now on staff and offers Regulation Support and Massage Therapy to campers and their family members. She facilitates a weekly support group and is passionate about offering support to the supporters so that this community is equipped to thrive!

BODYWORK

The body does so much for us and its resilience and adaptabilities are extraordinary. Many of us have been conditioned to not like or trust our bodies, to be disconnected, to judge and therefore, neglect our bodies. I am deeply passionate about cultivating a relationship with the body and learning to soften in and listen to it. My desire is to help others reconnect to their bodies and its innate intelligence. I also believe in the healing power of qualitative touch and intuition which are at the forefront of all my bodywork.

BREATHWORK

We can access dormant memories in our nervous system through the breath.

We can change our state, change our patterns, change our story.

Breathwork doesn’t have to be rigorous or intense, though that can be helpful at times. More so, strengthening awareness of the breath and how to tap into it in moments of stress, grief or any emotion is powerful in day to day life.

Breathwork is something we can do almost anywhere, anytime. A simple tool with profound benefits, I utilize breathwork in all of my sessions.

It’s a gift to be alive, it’s an honor to be human.

Whatever you are looking for, may your breath be a guide.

HEARTWORK

The trauma informed Empowered Heart methodology and guidance has helped transform my relationship with myself and with others. The awareness to choose a conscious response instead of an unconscious reaction and the courage to choose love in the face of fear or pain have been indispensable in my own healing journey. The Empowered Heart work is a beautiful guide and map at the foundation of how I operate in this world and my therapeutic practice.
